Halfway to 40

Really late pictures from my birthday! Stupid me forgot my camera at home when Maro took me out to eat. Sad, right?

Didn't take pictures until we were back at my house for preseenttsss. Nessie made me an awesome blanket:

Please excuse the water spots on some of the pictures. I didn't even clean it before I used it, I was too excited. :D

It was an awesome birthday. Maro got me a MUTHERTRUCKIN' Wii! Was not expecting that xD Juan got me a game/controller to go with it AND my birthday cake. Nessie took pictures of the cake when we were at the restaurant, I'll have to ask for those to post, but it followed the "Reddit Rage Face" theme, same as last year :)

Pretty card from my momma and Rayray and family. ♥

It was a nice day I'm just so bummed I forgot my camera. Dx

Will not do that again!

Honoring

YO MOMMA

Today was Mother's Day, yaaaay! Happy Mother's Day to the moms and single dads out there (like mine) who have sacrificed their body and mental state for their not-always-so-wonderful children.

I had the day off and Maro was sweet enough to come on over with balloons and chocolate and just niceness galore. I've been pretty down lately, haven't been feeling myself, but I felt a lot better at the end of the day.

I made pancakes for breakfast and I will only eat chocolate chip pancakes. Everything else is hell haha unless I'm out at IHOP or something. Whatevs.

Along with the chocolate chips, Maro had bought me some chocolate marshmallow/caramel marshmallow "eggs" so I put one in the middle and OH. MY. WORD.

It might look kinda messy/gross but that oozing mess in the middle is chocolate, caramel and marshmallow... so **** you! Haha it was amazinggggg. I only had one otherwise I would have felt like a fatty (*snort* like one wasn't too much) and tossed in some fruit so I wasn't scrambling for more diabetus pancakes.

Yum.

Sadly, I lost one of my friends today. I'm going to miss Lobo but he was a strroooonnggg kitty and I think the most affectionate cat I've ever met. Glad I could be a human friend for him for many years of his life. Love you, Lobo.

Birthday Boy

It was Cal's second birthday yesterday. Last year he got a birthday cake and had friends over. This year was a bit more low key. I got him a few new toys and his first bone to chew on. He can't tell the difference, but I still hope he enjoyed it all.

Complimentary gif, hehe.

Backyard

Cal loves the backyard. There's a lot more greenery back there and a bunch of little places for cats to hide and he looooves chasin' em.

Sadly he can't go back there as often as he'd like or I'd like because some plant is giving him sores in his side. Until we remove all of it he has to be supervised. I don't mind.

My birthday is in 10 days. I'm usually gabbing about it a month ahead of time but this year... I'm not in the place I want to be emotionally. I don't feel like I'll be to able to celebrate my birthday. It's sort of a bummer.

Mourning Cloak

I was outside on the porch thinking today, rattling thoughts around in my head, when I noticed out of the corner of my eye a black butterfly fighting a really strong wind.

I've never really seen a butterfly do much than flutter or drift along kind breezes but this poor little guy was fighting the good fight not to get thrashed into one of our trees. On top of that, there was a smaller butterfly, orange and reddish in color, a mock-monarch kind of look to it, that seemed to be harassing it while it tried to land on something, anything.

Finally, the wind died down and the little red bully butterfly went away and I just looked at the strange black butterfly as it opened and closed its wings on our twiggy peach tree. Most of the butterflies around here land for a few seconds and then take off again but this one stayed and I just felt an inkling to go over and take a look.

I dunno how I knew but I knew it was really tired and just going to... chill for a while on that branch. Long enough for me to take out my phone and get a quick picture but, not only was it not bothered with how close I got, it stayed pretty still.

I got shockingly close. Close enough to see the wind rustle it's... fuzz? Silk? Idk but this was one hairy butterfly with nice marking. It wasn't until I reviewed a few pictures did I realize it was black and yellow and blue.

These first two pictures were taken my phone so, yeah, crud quality. I've been meaning to take a LOT of pictures the past week or so. The mood struck me hard and I didn't realize how hard until I lent out my camera. Best I could do was get my old and faithful one that I've had for YEARS and hope for the best. Results were pretty impressive for such an old camera.

Once again, I was very surprised with how close he let me get. It wasnt until I bumped his branch that he took off. :/

He dawdled around my yard though for a bit and around my head a couple of times at first (I said I was sorry!) until he reperched on our fence.

Interesting little happening.

**Edit**: I was very curious as to what kind of butterfly this was since I had never seen it's kind around before and Maro suggest that we look around and see if we could find any information on it. I didn't think we'd find anything at all without uploading it on a forum somewhere and ask someone to classify it, but he proved me wrong. :) My Google skills are usually pretty keen but he beat me to the punch this time. He found out my little butterfly friend is a Mourning Cloak / Camberwell Beauty. Very pretty and a eerily fitting name considering things that have been going on. Slick, nature, very slick.
