Mabon

“ I know there’s an autumn spirit, and she lives as much inside me as around me in these hills, and the trees and crisp smoke and appley scent of chilly afternoons. She’s like a beautiful woman wearing an outrageous dress of red, orange and gold. […] She leans her head into the wind as her wild skirts are stripped away, leaving her branches bare like bony limbs reaching out for something. Then she wraps herself in a gray mist and settles herself into some kind of sleep, just waiting out the cold. ”

Wheel Of The Year

Today the is the mark of Mabon, the Autumn Equinox. It’s also, on a sweeter note, the beginning of baking season! At least in my household. Winking smile

Nothing too special planned for today, it’s not really that kind of holiday for us. Plus, Maro works late and I’m sure there’s some homework I could be attending to. Ah, well, it’s just the season that gets me into good spirits, not just today.

Now to start taking inventory of all the baking goods I have and what I need…

Arrivals

Tomorrow marks the first day of autumn and I can’t believe how fast the year is moving. Tomorrow autumn, my dad’s birthday the day after, then almost a month later is Maro’s birthday and then New Year’s!

I want to do something special this year for New Year’s because I’m usually on my own handing out the candy to the kids and let me tell ya, my neighborhood isn’t the best for trick-or-treating. It’s pretty boring. Shifty I guess everyone has wised up and moved on to the better neighborhoods for candy. *cough* NorthParkLaJolla *cough*

I was thinking of making the rickety wooden fence we used to make from the mulberry tree in the front yard. It’s a pain in the ass to cut down all the limbs and de-leaf them but the end product is really appropriate for Halloween. *shrug* I’m not sure yet, I got to see what’s in the budget for the rest of the decorations.

It’s been cooling down lately and it was sometime last week I could smell the autumn winds coming in from different directions. Soon there’ll be a chill in the air and the dense, hot humidity will turnover to a more bitter feel.

I’m wondering where I can get this kind of weather nearly year-around. Changing leaves would be wonderful, too. Red heart

By The Light Of The Torch

You really got to have it on a game’s launch day.

So, I was unable to play Torchlight 2 yesterday when it was launched. Everybody and their mother (respectively) was rushing RunicGames and Steam. Hey, no problem. I know it’s going to be a fantastic game.

Eventually, I was able to create my online account, sync with Steam, yadda yadda but it was waaaaay late by then to play and Juan was still having difficulties.

However, this morning was different.

Ricozerker

First Playthrough

Meet Ricochet, my Berserker. She's a melee class which I’m usually not prone to playing but her mystical skills make her a blast to play.

The bottom picture is a quick little screenshot I took of us playing. You can see my panther, Lumia, in the background, surveying the upcoming ship we’re about to commandeer. What a good scout. To the left is Juan’s Embermage and not on screen is his bulldog, Hooch. Both pets run around and do small damage to enemies and also go on our errands for us back to town to sell loot.

Omg. Loot.

SO MUCH LOOT.

They should change the name of the game to Lootlight, err Lots of Loot, Looalot, IDK, but wow.

Okay I’m done with my little shpeel about Torchlight 2.

(Only $20 bucks, people, c’monnn!)

Ode to Autumn

To me, snail mail is the best. When you get older, all you receive are bills and notices. When I was young (and around the holidays, still), my mom would send me packages and letters and I could not contain myself when I got them in the mail.

Now that I think about it, I still get goodies in the mail since I order so much online Flirt male Whatever!

My point is, it’s nice to receive fun mail every once in awhile and since I love me some reading, a couple of months ago I jumped on a special going on over at Discount Mags (fab place) where select magazines subscriptions were going for $5 for one year! I ended up picking up two years of Family Circle and Better Home and Gardens.

I don’t have the money whatsoever to do some of the crazy gorgeous things they show in BHaGm but I love the pictures and the articles are nice. However, this month’s issue was so lovely I couldn’t help but add a few pictures.

Ode To Autumn Fall Bell
Color Swatches Oreo Witch

Autumn is coming! I’ve been waiting since last winter so this wasn’t news to me, but I loved how they were showcasing it this month.

The pictures inside are so lovely and it makes me yearn to live someplace where they have the changing of the leaves. But nooooo, So-Cal has to be all evergreen or barren desert land.

Woe is me, right?

Oh and I just couldn’t help it with that last picture, so funny. I actually don’t eat oreos very often because I hate the “filling” but love the cookie part. I know, so dumb! It just made me think about decorations and stuff that I need to start planning out if I want to deck the porch with bowls of candy, fa la la la la, la la la AHHHH! For Halloween of course! Ghost

Either way, *sigh* Six more days and I’ll be in my element. Everything is better in the Fall! Winking smile

The Coronado Bridge (San Diego). I took this picture in 2009 when on a little boating trip with my academy class. Kinda cool, right? From what I hear, it ain’t too fun getting stuck up there in traffic. Sick smile

Hummers and Wasps

Earlier in the spring I had some hummingbird feeders out in the back yard. For awhile, I had a clan of about 4 or 5 hummers living around the house because they're habitual feeders and it was nice to hear them flitting about and watching them fight competitors. Angry smile

The Snail Sleeps Tonight

In a flower bed right off the porch, there's a little jungle.

So Wise

Gems I've heard today from the wackjob neighbors next door:
"Don't get all bent over shapes."
Don't bite the food from the hand that feeds you."
They're classy, elegant people. Such a way with words, the cops just love talking to them every other week. Eye rolling smile
Such a beautiful day in the neighborhood…

Update - New Design

I've converted to the new(er)(to me, considering it's been out for who knows how long) design for blogger. Compared to the old layouts, at least the ones I made, this new look is cleaner and more useable.

Although I will truly miss (for the time being) my personalized layouts, I will adjust and learn to love the new design. :)
